An 8-month-old pit bull in California is being hailed a hero after she alerted her family of a fire in their apartment complex – and then saved their 7-month-old daughter by pulling her by her diaper.

When flames broke out at the apparent complex where Nana Chaichanhda lives in Stockton, Calif., her pup Sasha, who was outside, quickly jumped to action, and “began to bang on the back door.”

"I open it and she runs in and starts barking at me like crazy and I was like, 'OK, this is weird. This is not like her,'” Chaichanhda told FOX40.

After seeing the flames begin to ravage part of the apartment complex, Chaichanhda went to get her 7-month-old daughter. When she entered the room, however, Sasha was already trying save the young girl.

“She had already had my baby by the diaper and was dragging her off the bed," she told FOX40. "I was like, 'Oh my gosh, what are you doing?'"

Thanks to Sasha, the family made it out of the apartment unharmed. But the damage from the fire has left Chaichanhda’s apartment uninhabitable, according to FOX40

For the time being, Chaichanhda, her baby, Sasha, as well as her cousin whose apartment was also impacted by the flames, are staying with an aunt who also lives in part of the complex that was not affected by the fire.

The Stockton Fire Department told FOX40 that they are still investigating the cause of the fire.

"It meant a lot. I owe her everything,” Chaichanhda said of Sasha. “If it wasn’t for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn.”

What a wonderful story and an amazing Pit. Gives me goosebumps! And this is to the gentleman above..thankfully the dog didn't grab the baby by a limb or something, accidentally hurting her. Or maybe she did know not to grab something that could hurt .. And maybe the diaper would have slid off before mom came in, but the dog wouldn't have known that could happen. It just wanted her safe!

  14. Unknown says:

That is so cute that dog rescued a baby
Baby girl from a fire That is a mirical for that dog is he stil alive after doing that

@phyllo65...Haha!!! Clearly you don't have kids and/or don't know how to put a diaper on properly!! The dog knows more than you. Go away & get a life Troll.

  17. Unknown says:

Such a wonderful dog. There is no such thing as a bad dog. It is how people treat them. Why was the pup outside?. I hope the family don't keep this baby outside anymore. Dogs are family.

What an amazing puppy. Thank you Sasha for saving your family from a fire. Xxx

    1) The dog should not be kept tethered outside 2) Pitties used to be known as nanny dogs. They are great with children 3) I'm happy to see good press for these dogs. I love happy endings.

Sweet . I have a private Resvue & we have a girl that looks just like this brave , smart pup . Mine was brought here with 6 young pups . Ciara is also a sweet loving girl & allowed other young females 2 help her deal with hr active family .

  21. I call bulshit the pit was trying to eat the baby. Everyone knows baby is the best tasting meat from a house fire

  22. MADD says:

Don’t leave Sasha outside especially at night. She’s a baby and you put her in danger of being stolen. She is beautiful and clearly loves you and the children. Do right by her always she deserves it! Sasha you are a true ambassador of the breed!! ❤️

  23. They are on the list of dangerous dogs because of thheir jaw strengh. Even the sweetest pit could severly hurt anyone. Besides that they are wonderful dogs. Mine is 8 months, she loves to cuddle and loves everyone. She would more likley only save my 4 year old niece.

  24. Anonymous says:

Phyllo65@gmail.com, you are a P.O.S. troll, get a life. Pits are great animals and yet you try to see the worst.

  25. Unknown says:

Maybe they will let the 8 month old pup live inside now then, after all the nights are getting colder

  26. She is hero dog and thank God you have her.i am so glad everyone is safe and I pray you all will be blessed doubly, Go Sasha!!!❤❤❤

  27. Unknown says:

The article never states they kept her outside. Just that she was outside when the fire broke!!! Pits are not on the dangerous dog list because of there jaw force they are on there because of ignorant people making them do bass things and ignorant people doing bad breeding on them. My pittie went through 2 babies that put her through everything and never once made me question if she was safe around my kids!!!

And as for the person who mentioned about the diaper coming off, they said she was pulling at the diaper to try and get her off the bed. Mom came in and helped........... KUDOS to the dog & mom.

@phyllo65 just saying the diaper wouldnt have ripped trust me im a mother of 3. that dog was saving that baby! god bless this family! i have been raised around pits and i raise them myself, pits are bad dogs! they act upon how they were raised, so if you beat them and treat them bad then yeah they will bite but other than that they are loving dogs! i own one right now and he is around my 6month old and my 3year old and my 2year old and all my nieces and nephews abd even the neighborhoods kids and is so sweet! i am glad that she left the dog outside because if she didnt she probably would have never knew! everyone downs pits for being "aggressive" dogs but cops are even thinking about using pits and k9s. dont down a dog by the stories you hear of all other dogs because not all dogs are the same! prayers for this family!

Well done shows its how u bring ur dog up its not the breed thats bad well done to the dog and give it a hero reward x

    Strong Work Sasha!
I have my own, a red nose, honey colored brindle, and she is super strong at now 10 months old.
She's such a sweet, loving, beautiful girl!

You earned the HONOR that you have received, and I pray that you will be HONORED and LOVED all the rest of your days Sasha. ❤

  37. Anonymous says:

To everyone complaining that he was outside... Putting our dog on the chain is the only way we can let her outside or she will run off. She is too strong to have on a leash, and she won't potty when on it. She lives indoors though. Don't give this family too much crap over that.

  38. Anonymous says:

If they were in bed sleeping and the dog was outside, then they obviously keep the dog outside, so I WILL fault them for it. Also, why was a 7 month old baby on a bed itself?

  39. Divadiane says:

    Tremendous!!!

  40. Sam says:

I guess the dog doesn't like his meat well-done. Lucky someone got the baby before the dog got hungry.

  42. Unknown says:

And yet these dogs get given a bad name well done sasha

Good dog.. my pitbull also saved us from a house fire.. they are so smart :)

  45. I'm confused why everyone thinks that this dog was being kept outside all night... all it said was that she was OUTSIDE when the fire broke out. I hate to say it, people, but dogs go to the bathroom... OUTSIDE!
KUDOS to this beautiful pitty, Sasha! She was clearly the right pitty for the job!!!

  46. Unknown says:

Pitties can carry thier young in their mouth without hurting them because they use "soft mouth." Im sure this sweet girl did the same when she was tugging at the baby to get her off the bed. Ya know there are some really judgemental people on here. Maybe the mommy was sleeping with the baby on the bed? Who knows? Get a life!!!

  47. Anonymous says:

To those commenting about her living outside, did it ever occur to y'all that maybe she was outside to do her business? The story doesn't say so please don't speculate. The pup obviously interacts with thr family frequently enough to try to save them. So glad everyone made it out ok.

I can tell some of these folks didn't read anything more than the Headline (Asking questions that the article answers!!) & some of these folks are really sick (Turning a great story about a brave dog into something so sinister, such as eating babies??)! And lets not forget the "Anti-Pit" people and their negative comments about dogs they have probably never given a chance to! I have 2 Pits, neither of them would ever hurt anyone, BECAUSE OF HOW I HAVE RAISED THEM! I'm NOT saying that if they are provoked they wont snap because lets be honest, if someone was provoking YOU, doing stuff to intentionally piss you off eventually, yes, YOU WILL SNAP! So try not to be so judgmental maybe?? Anyways, I'm proud of this dog and her bravery, and glad everyone is safe!

Our pitbull saved our family from fire as well. She was acting strange, alert barking the day before the fire. Her behavior continued even though we were telling her to stop. The next morning around 5am, she started to bark fiercely. I woke up to a flash of fire going up my wall from a faulty extension cord. If she hadn't been so intune with her surroundings we could have died. My home at the time was well over 100 yrs and could have just went right up in flames. I am thankful we rescued her, she is a gift❤

To the fucktard that said 224 children have been killed by pits. Actual fact: There were approximately 238 dog bite-related fatalities over the past 20 years. Approximately 25 breeds of dogs were involved in theses deaths

Get an education you fucking ignorant fuck! And to the fucking idiot who said the pit must not like her meat well done. What is wrong with you!!!? Are you so ugly and so unsatisfied with your own life that you have to say something so awful about a baby being saved? Did it make you feel better about your ugly self?

  57. This dog is truly a wonderful dog I luv pit bulls I had 3 at one time and they where wonderful dogs. Its not the breed it's the owner who makes a dog mean any dog can bite someone I've been bit by poodles and it's not there fault it's how they r raised.Pit bulls r the nanny breed and will protect there owner with there life but u really dont hear stories like this where they r given the credit they deserve

  58. Unknown says:

Watch Pitbulls and Parolees. You will see a pitbulls true nature.

dogs don't belong indoors anyways tf? its fine if it's outside, my nans dog(whose name happens to be Sasha funny enough) isn't even allowed indoors and I haven't seen a happier dog in my whole life, y'all need to understand animals don't belong inside

  60. For those people who say they will never trust a pitbull I say you are highly uneducated on the breed. Pit bulls are more trust worthy than most other dogs. Please do us all a favor go to ur local shelter volunteer and spend some time with the Pit bulls and u will see what amazing animals they are. Don't judge something unless you have been it's shoes

  62. I have a bullboxer pit she's amazing as never attacked anybody and i had her mom and dad also with two other pits from her moms first litter its true if a dog is trained right and you give them the attention they want and raised right it doesnt matter the breed what matters is how they are raised yes ive been bite by a pitbull but you know what i have one of my own she is very friendly he'll if theres another dogs she runs away she wont fight them. I was walking her down the street one day she seen a cat left it alone she's never been around cats but she wont mess with them. The same day a guy was following me i took alleys went in between peoples yards hell i even went to a restraunt i chained her to a bench i told her sit and be good im getting help she did it i went in called the cops. I told them i have a pitbull we were minding are own business and i was being followed and wanted an officer to come soon so i would feel safe. They asked if she would bite i said no she will only bite if i tell her the special word we have worked on they asked what it was and i said i half to go inside and say because if she hears she'll think im telling her too. I want in insde and told him she is trained to attack if i tell her to attack she will when i tell her to let go or thats enough or he's done she'll let go and they said they would be there soon they came looked at her and then asked the guy that was following why he was and he said shenandoah was his i had her tags and papers on hand and showed the officer that i have had her since she was born i told him im the owner of her mom she passed away givung birth. Shenandoah just turned 2 May 4 and he said your good to go but shenandoah wouldnt get her eyes off the guy she was growling at him warnjng him to stay away. The cops asked why she was doing that i said she can scents if someone is good or not i also told them not only that she's trained to sniff drug out. He asked me if i would be willing to let her sniff him out to see if he was clean because they talked through their walking and asked the dispatcher if they could look his name up to seen if theres any warrants out for him. There was for drug pedophilia and he was a sexual predator she sniffed him out he had weed, syringes and heroine on him. How she told them was she barked and sat down. My cousin is the cheif of police and helped me train her that he she knew what to do and the cheif is who came to see if i was okay because he heard my name on the scanner. The guy was arrested he didnt try to run because all i had to do was run with her and tell her to attack until the other cops caught up so he made the right choice not to run. Because pitbulls are now also k9 dogs and thats what my dog is my uncle takes her if he absolutely has to she loves it.

  63. To the person that said "saved to kill another day, 224 children killed by pit bulls so far", I bet you all of those pits are being handled by shitty people. If raised correctly they're just like any other dog.

  70. Hey the ppl that talk crap about pit bulls are the ones who have never owned 1. Pit bulls are beautiful dogs , smart , loving specially blunose pit bulls .. and it all depends how you raise them. If you Going to beat your dog then that’s all he knows is that ppl beat em so they get defensive around ppl unless you are his owner . But you give them love and raise them with love .. they will protect you and will be great around the family . They are really smart dogs and they can read your energy .. trust me. I had my blue nose 13 yrs strong may he RIP he was too old so had to bring him down but he was the best pit bull ever . Never attacked anyone of my family .. but they scent everything and they will scent if you are a bad person and will watch you till they feel that it’s safe to trust . Mine would stay next to me if I ever had new company they they scent nothing good .. he will watch you head to toe .. let’s make a long story short .. pit bulls are GREAT DOGS

  71. What a great story, and fantastic that it happens to be a pitbull, considering the bad light people have been putting on them . ALL animals have a wonderful sense of protection in them. It's humans that make them mean by treating them mean...

  72. Anonymous says:

Yeah after it ate the baby ass cheeks. I call bull shit, and even if it did that's one dog compared to the many that attack, people including their own family

  73. Unknown says:

Pitbulls have been proven to attack and harm people easier than small dogs because they are all muscle and propel generally are afraid of them because of they're bulkly strong look...they get a bad rap because of fear. I've never met a dog that been mean to me since I stopped.being afraid of dogs..before that I was attached and attacked or chased awsy three time by different breed dogs as a kid and watched my cousin get hit leg bit and my aunt uave her head bit....all the biters I've ever k ows it how they're raised...if you raise them with violence and anger they will attack people.. regardless of the type of dog..I love my dogs now...I never would have imagined I would be a dog lover but once I got my lassapoodle I just stopped being afraid if f dogs...and if your being attacked or scared if a dog too much grab it neck collar and bring it head to the ground gently( or hard if your a sadist or it actual owner.. but it takes worked on every viscious dog I've dealth with even the giant ockboush that bit my aunt's yead...a dog that was around people all day everyday if it life..now that was a plain scary dog from sheer size it stood eight feet tall with it arms up

  74. Unknown says:

Pit bulls were first call nanny dogs. In fact the first mascot on little rascals was a pit bull. The pit was the only dog gentle enough and had the stamina to keep up with all the kids.

  75. Anonymous says:

Pits end up as the owner raises it! I have known most pits to be very gentle and loving.

  76. Unknown says:

@phyllo65 This story is real and verified. This family actually lives in my area. Realistically no one is making up stories to make pitties sound good, if anything we still see way too much of the opposite. This is an amazing "breed" (the only real "pit bull" is the Americal Pit Bull Terrier ...many breeds fall in the bully category and there are many mixes people just call "pit bull") that is very people-oriented and kid-friendly.

  77. Cuivre says:

My cat goes crazy when the door bell rings. This behavior in an animal is not necessarily "heroic". And dogs are often times governed by their breeding for a specific purpose over generations and hundreds of years of selection for a behavior and a phenotype. Collies instinctively herd, retrievers retrieve and pointers point. Bully breeds, are bred for a specific purpose as well, and you cannot "love that breed tendency away". So many people buy into this fallacy and there are many pit bulls that turn on their owners-but they really have a tendency to attack people who are not in their "pack".

  78. What an amazing dog! Pitbulls are known to be the sweetest of dogs if raised right. It's not the breed that makes a dog mean. It's the way they're raised. I'm so glad that everyone got out safe thanks to a heroic dog.

  79. Unknown says:

Pitbulls get a bad rep but they are loving caring and honorable dogs this one is so freaking awesome 😍

  80. Unknown says:

    Good dogs

  81. Unknown says:

Cuivre..I agree with you on one point....each dog was bred for a specific reason & that is instinctual. I use to own & trained four GSDs for obedience trials. They have a natural born instinct to protect their family. They have to be trained to know "when" to protect...to be socialized. Same with any of the so-called dangerous breeds. The American Pit Bull Terrier was originally bred in Europe in the 1800s to bait bulls/bears. It was brought to the US after the Civil War & became a farm dog. But...as usual, the low life humans started fighting them...the true nature of the APBT is loving, affectionate especially with kids & a desire to please. Which, is where the Nanny Dog story started. Yes, as with any breed...they can be bred for aggressiveness...but it's NOT their true nature & doesn't always work...as the Vick "Victory Dogs" proved very well...most were adopted & became loving family dogs. Some were so damaged they couldn't be rehabilitated. I have an American Pit Bull Terrier/Dobie mix that I rescued five yrs ago & he's all that the APBT is suppose to be...the TRUE nature. So...just because sub-humans have used these dogs for fighting.. doesn't make the BREED bad. GSDs, Belgian Mals are not all bad because they are Police/Military trained!! Police dogs go home at the end of their shift to the handlers family!

  82. S.F. says:

Can you NOT specify the breed merely because it's a pitbull terrier? If it were a Labrador, the article would have read 'Hero Dog Rescues 7-month Old' and not 'Labrador Being Hailed As Hero'. That ONLY kind of dog that should be in the header of ANY article should be a Chihuahua because those tiny things can't do much. A pitpull is still a DOG. No need to specify. The pictures would be enough of an identifier and, if anything, would be more of a shock value to those whom wouldn't think a pit would be held up as a savior.
