Rod Salka wore “America 1st” and a wall pattern on his trunks against Mexican fighter Francisco Vargas, and ended up knocked out KO
American super-featherweight Rod Salka came in rocking a wall-themed set of trunks with "America 1st" written on them. He left with the same shorts and a big old L, by way of Mexico's Francisco Vargas.
There's nothing quite like international sports to play out political turmoil. Russia vs. USA Olympic hockey, whenever the Dutch play any of their former African colonies in the World Cup—the list goes on. Usually, that metaphor hangs silently in the background, but last night, it was on full blast, front and center for all to see.
In the super-featherweight matchup between American "Lightning" Rod Salka and Mexican boxer Francisco "El Bandido" Vargas, Salka decided to show up wearing some pret-ty Trumpian "America 1st" trunks with a brick wall pattern on them.
The fight was held in Indio, California, and it's safe to say the 35-year-old Pennsylvania native wasn't in the most receptive company to his bullshit. But don't worry; Vargas, 33, did plenty of talking with his hands. Just watch him work Salka like a sack of white rice:
Even though the clip is cut off, you can hear the announcer say:
"We are not going to get into these issues, but I think we are bringing a spirit typical of Latino people—this heart, this delivery, this [inaudible]. Let's leave it by saying it was a good choice to take on Salka."
After Vargas (25-1-2, 18 KOs) dealt out a flurry of punches (112 landed to Salka's 75) for a solid six rounds, Salka (24-5, 4 KOs)—more important, his corner—ended up throwing in the towel.

Wish that bonehead 'merikan was the Dotard-in-Chief!
“whenever the Dutch play any of their former African colonies in the World Cup”??? What are you talking about?? The only moment when something happens like that is when the Dutch play soccer against the German. Oh and which African colonies are you talking about? Must have missed something when I was at school
A most politically poetic conclusion to a pugilistic event...
lol BW you're fucking kidding right? Where do you think the term "Boer" came from? Where do you think Afrikaan came from? are you daft or just that ignorant? Even assuming I didn't already know Dutch colonial history in Africa, a basic google search turns up Ivory Coast, Ghana and the biggest of them all: South Africa. And major trading posts in Angola, Senegal and Morocco.
So yes you really did miss something when you were at school LOL. Must have slept your way through it.
Everyone in the Us is an immigrant unless you are Native American born! I am so glad he got his ass whooped showing his racism and his ignorance!
I'm not disagreeing with you on the Native statement but according to a few ignoramus' us Natives are now immigrants..lol. Apparently we imigrated from Asia someplace. They "learned" this from those who write history. The done ones that say they never committed genocide against natives. History is written by the victors but is seldom ever the truth.
I ld say that was probably a good business move on Salka s part. Even tho he lost his name is obviously staying in main circulation and he will probably have another big match lined up with another Mexican just cause of that. Smart man if you ask me...
