Even though the citizens in Brazoria, Texas were warned about the flood, many family dogs were abandoned in the midst of the chaos.
However, the dad and younger brother of a Redittor named DUSTYHAM took the risk to save them. Equipped with a motorboat, the animal-loving duo rescued about 40 stranded dogs.
“This was forecasted a week or so in advance, some situations I can understand,” wrote DUSTYHAM. “Not this one.” Neither can we, however, it’s also possible that the owners were away from home and not able to come back for their pooches.
Whatever the reason, the poor pups were brought to safety. “They all went to temporary shelter set up by the local humane society,” DUSTYHAM explained. The dogs will be cared for until their owners come to pick them up or they’re adopted. If you want to help the shelter look after these dogs, please consider making a donation here.
Destructive flash flooding that hammered parts of central and southeast Texas before the Memorial Day weekend 2016 was just the latest in a string of more than a dozen flood events that have affected parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri dating to March 2015.
The most recent event washed out roads and bridges, thanks to up to 19 inches of rain in a swath from just southeast of Austin, Texas, to the far northern suburbs of Houston on May 26-27, 2016.

Thanks for being there for the animals, such a selfless act of kindness. I hope all can take something from your story!
U guys r super heroes!!! Awesome!! God bless y'all!!!
Leaving those dogs behind probably was not the choice most of those home owners made but it happened and once out, authorities would not let them back in. I can only imagine how bad they felt. So when these two did what they did, I hope those owners, even though they now have lives to put back together, remember that young man and the awesome life lessons his dad taught, not just to his son, but to us all. Well done gentlemen. True Texas Grit.

Stars the both of you . . . . thank you so much for your compassion in saving these animals. xxx
Amazing men, this man and his son!!! What a wonderful father - teaching his son what 'real men do'!
I thank God for men like YOU! God bless you.
Unfortunately, many people abandon their animals without a care as if they are disposable. They should have been evacuated along with their families.Don't have a dog if you cannot care for them in a crisis also.
Bless the Heroes who cared enough to return them to safe ground.
What wonderful heroes, the world needs more men setting examples like this for the world! With all of the negative things happening today this makes me feel so much better about the world!
So sad that they were left behind, so wonderful that they were rescued. Shame on those who leave their pets behind, if you cant figure it out in a crisis then don't have pets.
Thank you for your compassion! Bless you both!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You were these baby's angels. God bless you.

But my heart breaks to think of how many pets, cattle and wildlife were not saved. We needed a whole lot of beautiful people like this to save them all.
Totally awesome
Thank you for doing the right thing. Truly. This is exactly why I refuse to leave my pets when we are facing bad weather, I cannot fathom leaving them on purpose to experience something like this on their own.
