The family who dumped this dog tried to provide for some of his physical needs: a fresh stick of rawhide, a full bag of dog food. But the old dog's spirit seemed in serious need of repair. He just kept crying and crying.
Maybe that's why he was dumped in front of a church in Iowa. And on a Sunday, no less. Then again, being abandoned has a way of crushing the soul.
When local resident Jessica Ellers tried to get close to him, he would only bark and whine and tremble, remaining rooted to his post.
His faith in his owners' return proved unshakable. If there's a god of small things, however, she works in mysterious ways.
Ellers called Dianna Helmers, founder of Agape Fosters, who happens to live in the area.
Helmers didn't hesitate to open the doors of her rescue — although at the time, she was at a Des Moines veterinary hospital with her own ailing dog, Gomer.
It seemed like it would take a miracle, however, to get the dog into the car. He would follow Ellers a short ways, "but then turn around and lay back down in the same spot," Ellers explained

Here is the sweet boy whom appeared abandoned in front of a church. He will see the Vet hopefully tomorrow. His name is now Truman (faithful man) and you will see when I call him that he perks up. Reminds him of someone or something.I can't get a hold of anyone at the church where he was found. I have called several times and stopped there. He's safe now and will make a wonderful companion. He still has the chew that was at his side when he was rescued.

This is so sad. Did you find him a home yet. Please help him. He is so sweet. Please let me know. We live so far away in NM . We would take him. How is his health doing, he looks like he has lived it hard but still has such a sweet faith about him. Made me cry to see what happened to him. I am on FB under Robbie Robison...picture of me is the fairy god mother in purple. Lot of Robbie s on there...Would like to know what happens to this sweet boy.
oh the poor soul. how could they...?
Thats just awful! Come on people, there are plenty of ways to safely find an animal a new home rather than dumping them on the street! I hope he finds someone to love!
This poor dog is breaking my heart! I hope someone took him in & gave him the best home ever. He deserves it!!
Still cannot believe someone would leave their family member behind like this! :(
Maybe someone will throw them away when they get old.
Hope you find a good home for him he looks like he needs one.
How is he? I hope and pray that he has found a good home. His previous owners are descpicable!!
