Rusty didn't seem sweet or playful at all when Jared Piper first met him. He was chained up in a yard in Phoenix, Arizona, barking at passersby all day. But one day Jared decided to stop and say hello.
It turned out that Rusty was just lonely, and deeply craving some human affection. Jared began to stop by every day, and Rusty grew friendlier and friendlier, wagging his tail for treats and laying his head along the fence.
But Rusty's conditions were deplorable: Jared had never seen him off the chain, he had flies all over his body and a tumor on his belly. Jared knew he had to get Rusty somewhere safe. One day as Jared was stopping to hang out with Rusty, his owner came out of the house. She casually told Jared that Rusty had been chained up for 10-15 years ... it was all he knew.
Jared told her he wasn't leaving without Rusty. At first she resisted, telling Jared that Rusty would bite or attack him, but he was insistent. Finally she handed his chain over the Jared and the two left together. Rusty didn't bite, he wasn't even scared — he just walked triumphantly alongside his rescuer.
No dog should spend his whole life chained up outdoors — dogs rely on interaction with humans for their sense of safety and community, they need our love.

jared you are an angel. thank goodness you cared
THIS KIND OF ABUSE IS THE DEMISE OF OUR CIVILIZATION ....SOMETIMES I SUFFER FROM SO MUCH GUILT FOR THE THINGS I DID AS A SOLDIER IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY FOR THE "FREEDOM" OF COMPLETE AND UTTER TRASH LIKE THIS WOMAN...I HAVE FINALLY STOPPED SOBING LONG ENOUGH TO WRUT THIS AND FOR SOME REASON FEEL AT FAULT....PTSD INVADES MY WAKING MOMENTS. I WISH ANIMALS HAD SOLDIERS TO FIGHT FOR THEM CAUSE I WOULD BE ON THE FRONT FUCKING LINES BELIEVE ME WHEN I WRITE THAT....
thank you for saving this beauty
To the person that took the time and effort to notice this lovely creature THANK YOU, to the so called owner of this lovely animal, you should be chained up w/a very short chain, no water and/or food for at least 15 years, no human contact whatsoever. Then you should be jailed for at least another 25 years. Now for the people that assisted Rusty Diamond to clean him up & provide the wonderful medical treatment that he required immediately, all of you are amazing HUMAN BEINGS indeed. Thank you!.. To the Brilliantly amazing wonderful GREAT Forever Family that now have what seems to be such a great dog, YOU ARE just wickedly great people.. Cheeres!!!
Tears watching the video. Kudos to the man who took the time to notice and care about this poor dear dog. Why people love a puppy, then chain it by the neck outside and leave it there through heat and cold, makes no sense. Such people should never be allowed to own animals. That woman should have been prosecuted for animal cruelty, even though she relinquished the dog, for now she is free to get another dog and do the same thing to it.
Una triste historia, pero con un final feliz.
First time from very long time I cried while I was watching this video. Cried from happiness, almost like I felt this dog's emotions when he finally was free and loved... Not often it's happening to me...
God bless you kind person
