Dog and fisherman help save beached 'baby dolphin' washed up on Criccieth beach
A dog helped save the life of a baby “dolphin” when she spotted the stricken creature on a Welsh beach.
Two-year-old springer spaniel Leia alerted her owner, Rich Wilcock, to the sea mammal that had washed up on the Criccieth shoreline.
Rich said: “I was stood taking pictures and videos of the scenery when Leia started to make a right old fuss. 'I lifted him gently under the belly and popped him back amongst the waves' “She kept coming up to me, barking and nudging me, she must have smelt the dolphin from a mile off.
“At first I thought it was a baby shark, it was only about one and half foot but on a closer inspection I could see the blow hole on top of his head and realised it was a dolphin.“There was nobody around for miles so I did what I could as gently as possible. I lifted him gently under the belly and popped him back amongst the waves and he swam away into deeper water.
“I combed the beach for a while afterwards and stayed for an hour or so to make sure he made it back out to sea.” (Source)

thank you~ xo
Love that. So glad the little one made it back out to sea.
What when the mother is not there, died or .... This little one will die ....
I agree with Judi Abbink. This porpoise is very small and was probably trying to get away from being a potential meal to a shark. At least this person tried so hats off to them.
That is a very special dog to get you to that poor baby dolphin. I hope he finds his way back to it's momma. Thank you, to You & Leia for saving him. May God bless & be with you.
god bless you sir you save the little guy. he sure was having trouble getting away from the wave every time it seams like he was going to make it he was back by the shore. the out he went thank god. oh that's right I think your puppy needs a steak for helping too what do you think
Awww... I love your effort without hesitation... Bless you always and good karma to you.
I hope that his/her mother was in the neighbourhood because the baby dolphin is to little to survive on his/her own. It is nice what you have done and I hope it found his mother and still lives.
Thanks to you & your dog for helping this very young dolphin. No matter what happens you gave him/her a chance he wouldn't have had...bless you!
If the took him to an aquarium he might no be released ever due to his age - and it is abuse to. Better to give him whatever chance there are at the sea.
❤
