Maori singer/songwriter Maisey Rika, has one of Aotearoa's (New Zealand's) most impressive lead vocal style, fused with her honest and thought invoking messages.
Maisey was born in Wellington and is of Ngati Awa, Te Arawa, Tuhoe descent. She also strongly regards herself as of Te Whanau a Apanui descent as she spent a lot of her early years on the East Coast of the North Island. She started singing at a very young age. Her mother, Rebecca "Honey" Rika, was a singer who greatly encouraged her daughter's talents at an early age.
Award-winning musician known for her eclectic mix of folk, acoustic, soul, and easy listening. Her breakthrough album, "E Hine," consisted of Maori traditional songs and achieved double platinum status. The album also won the prize for Best Maori Language Album at the New Zealand Music Awards.
