He took on the life-changing role of Spock in 1965, at the age of 34 — by which point he'd been a professional actor for 15 years.

It is disappointing that at that time in history the film industry felt it necessary to cast Non-American Indians in role depicting their culture. However, Leonard Nimoy portrayal was done very respectfully. I as a Native American myself feel Nimoy depiction was respectful of a culture he was not full vested in. I feel that Hollywood could not have cast an actor with more respect for Indian culture than Nimoy. God rest his soul.
