Wolves in Dreams - Meanings and Interpretations

Interpreting what animals mean in our dreams is a very personal process, but some animals can create such strong impressions they may seem to overwhelm our logic. This can be a good time to step back and try to understand the animal as a symbol before we go the next step of applying our own personal layer of interpretation.

One animal that is often a such of such confusion and power is the wolf. Feared, worshiped, maligned, misunderstood and revered, the wolf is a potent symbol through-out much of Europe and North America, and now thanks to cultural diversity, through much of the world. Wolves star in folklore and fairy-tales from many generations ago, and still capture our imagination through popular films and television today.

A wolf in a dream may be scary, threatening and vicious, she may be noble, protecting and wise, or maybe something else entirely – mysterious, elusive, wild. To understand the meaning of a Wolf in dreams, we can start by understanding the wild nature of these animals, and the very attitudes that society has to them can reveal much about our own wild selves.

Wolves in dreams can represent all that is wild and “uncivilised” about ourselves. This can be a scary thing to confront. What is wild is what our polite and safe day-to-day behaviour does not want to let out – what is wild can damage, hurt and upset. But what is wild can also free, excite and release. Wild can be untamed and bad mannered, but wild can also be pure and uncorrupted. Sometimes a wolf in a dream will be guiding us to find our true, authentic nature that we are afraid to reveal as we try to conform, but sometimes a wolf dream will be a warning that we are behaving too wildly, that we may be threatening something else that is important to us.

The behaviour of wolves in their native environments can give us clues as to why we might be dreaming about them. Do you long to feel part of a group, or seek the support and kindred spirit of a pack? Do you feel a need to protect something that is important to you, and need the fierceness of a wolf mother? Do you need to approach a situation carefully, using the stealth of a wolf to get close without being discovered? Do you feel a need to express your true self more freely, let go of inhibitions and howl at the moon?

Looking at the role wolves play in fiction, folklore and films may also give us insight as to what the wolf means in our own personal dream. The mythical She-Wolf who nurtured Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, as well as Mowgli from the Jungle Book, can help us understand how wolves in our dream can be a sign of us seeking or offering nurturing, care and protection to a part our selves or someone else.

Wolf dreams challenge us to confront what we are afraid of, and to not lurk in the shadows of our own subconscious. Wolf dreams offer us the gift of strength, freedom and the ability to fiercely protect that which is dear to us. Wolves in dreams invite us to claim back our own power, to run freely and live our most authentic life possible, without fear, without shackles, without shame.

Wolves are known through all cultures as path finders. If you meet one in a dream it may be that you have met a guide. This is what happened to me when I dreamed of a wolf who spoke to me in a forest and led me along paths by the tranquil light of the moon.

I dreamt that a big gray wolf came up to me when I was in my backyard. He had some colored stones in his mouth (blue, white, and yellow and two others that I don't remember). He then placed the stones at my feet and I understood that he wanted me to live with them for 5 years! I left with my home wearing my Cherokee teardress and a knife and nothing else. Once I got to where he lived, I know everything that I needed to do, like making baskets, I even made a bow and arrows, etc.. everything that I needed to survive. I lived and hunted with the pack! It was amazing! When my 5 years was up, I ended up in a clearing with my wolf family on one side and my human family on the other and I was supposed to choose which one to go back with. I chose the wolf family! Then I woke up. I will never forget this dream!

I dreamt my Army squad came under attack. Only 2 left, myself & male soldier. They caught up. We got shot. We ran to river for cover. Wolves were on cliff. We lain dying, 2 wolves m&f approached. We weren't scared. As they came toward us, our souls left us and jumped into the wolves.
    Any thoughts?

  12. Recuerdo una vez, en la que me encontraba en un bosque tranquilo, bañado por la azulada luz de la luna llena. Me acunaba y me tranquilizaba.

Within the depths of my mind are 4 wolves: A White One with red Markings through its fur. A Black One with Red tips on his tail, ears and paws, and a silver earring in his left ear. A White One with White Wings. And a Gray One with a eye-patch over his right eye. Different Wolves, Different Powers, One Similar Purpose. Only problem: I can't seem to understand why they are all there, or what that want with me.

I have a reoccurring dream for a few years now of a wolf coming to me and getting me to follow her down this path in the forest. She keeps looking back at me to make sure I am there. It is a beautiful night with grandmother moon in her fullest leaving shadows in the forest, wolves are howling in the distance, I feel saddened because of their cries. I feel an urgency to continue and then we finally stop. With the wolf by my side, I look forward to find out why I was led there. All I can see is pure darkness. Thinking this is odd because of the full moon, I took a few more steps to try to see what was there. It was total darkness, as if it were the end of the world.
Thinking someday there will be something at the end of our journey.

For years I have had a recurring dream. I dream t of a white wolf always searching for me. He would find me and just stand and stare me straight in the eyes. He was trying to tell me something. The old Indian chief that often came with him, only sat in silence. The places he found me varied, there was never any fear. The only thing consistent was the wolf silently staring at me

I had a dream of two white wolves with a sheen of golden fur in the underbelly and sides. In the dream one of the wolves is my pet/companion it is also male. It was a sunny day and we had been traveling amongst other people on a dirt road. The houses were made of clay I believe and we ended up in a abandoned complex building. I had gone out the door for a moment to see if my family had arrived and they didnt show up. The sky started to get stormy even with the hot sun still visible. The complex building we were in was surrounded by plants as if stuck in the middle of a rainforest. The windows were shuttered with wood and faint light can be seen through the cracks. There was two twin mattresses in the room on the floor and no sign of my wolves until I walked further and flipped the mattress and my wolves emerged they looked to have been resting but my specific wolf/companion got up and approached me scenting me almost while I soothingly ran my hand over its fur and calling its name. He responded to the name by playfully rubbing himself all over me. He was purring and very warm.

I will never forget my dream about a wolf. I was living in a cabin, in the woods, and I had just got done barbecuing some steak. As I sat down, on the porch to eat, I saw a wolf peek out from behind a tree. I called to it and it slowly came to me. I put a piece of the steak in my hand and he grabbed the piece without biting my hand and he sat in front me and just laid there and I was able to pet him, as if he knew me.

Dreamt a pack of wolves invaded a village. I was safe in a house, but there were people on my porch beseeching me to let them in. At first, I didn't want to risk my own safety for strangers by opening my hone. But, there was a mother with her children and my heart was touched so I opened the door. I let the family in and peeked out to see a she wolf with cubs. I realized they were just trying to survive as we humans were. I had recently read a sign to make noise in order to shoo off coyotes and wolves so I did. I gave out these muffled sounds. I was telepathically asking the wolves with my "song" not to harm the villagers. The huge pack were interspersed amongst the people who stood still. Eventually, the wolves conceded to my request because the wolf is my spirit animal and I have treated their kind (my doggies) EXTREMELY well. I think like Anubis, my heart and soul were judged along eith my request and found to be pure. I think the Year of the Dog will be beneficial for me and "my village." Thank you, God! This morning all kinds of signs made me think about my parents. They, along with my dream seem to indicate of protection and inner power that only comes from Jesus Christ. May all who read this be blessed in 2018 and always and that you find your path and the appropriate guides.

I just had a dream about a large white wolf with very long legs outside of a building I was in. The wolf was attacking some kids and I was too scared to go outside to help them without a weapon I kept asking if there was a weapon inside with no response.

Then, me and the pack ran to another wall (it was a full moon). We were about to transform into wolves when we saw my mum and one of my sisters. Then, after we saw them my dream ended. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF IT MEANS SOMETHING.

  48. Anonymous says:

Oh my gosh I also had a similar dream involving a white wolf with very long legs!

    It went like this:

Me and my family were working at some agriculture place for some reason, and we had to sleep on site in a cabin like building, and the other workers slept on site as well, so it was kind of like a campground, with multiple little wooden buildings scattered around.
However, there was a rumor that something else was there... some sort of monster, so we were warned to be cautious.

Night came, and we all went into our cabins. A while later, we heard a man frantically running out side, screaming for help.. I felt really scared, as I knew he was being chased by whatever monster we were told about. I think we all knew that we couldn't do anything to help, and if we went outside, the monster would come after us as well, so instead, we just locked the door, all the windows, and shut all the blinds..
It was terrifying... it was like whatever was out there was so dangerous, just it looking at you would be a death sentence even though we had no idea what it was..
We couldn't do anything, so we just tried to go to bed..
I couldn't sleep though, understandably. I lay in bed just listening to the man running and pleading for help...
    I got curious...
I peeked through the blind of the window, and within a split second, I see the man, running away from a white wolf, except the wolf is taller than the man due to it having horrifically long legs..
Only a split second, and as soon as I peeked out the window...
The wolf immediately turned its head to look at me straight in the eye...

It was a really horrifying dream, and I still get shivers remembering it..

I am genuinely concerned though.. what does it mean..?

My spirit guide is a white female wolf with 3 tails and reddish gold eyes laced with black. she came out of a bluish forest coated in snow a river with ice chunks in it she turned looking me straight in the eye and calmly walked towards me when she was 5 feet away the surrounding area darkened and she started floating her eyes started glowing and she said "follow" and I woke up.

Now before I tell my dream, I want to mention that I had this dream repeatedly in one night I was very aware of my surroundings in my room, I could hear my AC an my husband's soft snores next to me. At the end of wake up for a minute but fall right back into this sleepless state.

Okay I was in this older victorian style home. I couldn't see any of the house but I could tell by the big bay window i'd be looking out of with white lace curtains. As I would be looking out of the window, I would see a pure white wolf with striking yellow eyes staring straight at me, and I'd get the overwhelming feeling that i needed to run away, and fast. As I turn to run the house is darker than dark but somehow I know just where to go. But suddenly, I stop running and my body is numb and a fear like i've never felt before seeps into me.I can't move but my body turns and I'm now face to face with a tall figure that is even darker then the house, I let out a scream, then I wake up. That is the only night I've had this dream and I can't figure out what it means.

I had a dream a few months back of me running through the woods in wolf skin for fun. Then the next time I was being chased by a pack of black wolves with red eyes my aunt who doesnt know about omega and is the daughter of a Pentecostal preacher said she had a dream that I was a white wolf being chased by demons that were black with red eyes never told her about it and neither of us can figure out what its supposed to mean recently I've been dreaming of omega laying down by the roots of a large mooss covered tree in the middle of the forest. I've felt calm and more energetic when I've had this one any ideas as to what's going on with that
