A Siberian husky dog that had all four of its legs cruelly ripped off is now able to walk again thanks to the dedication and kindness of a vet and the generosity of people touched by his story.
The dog, called Da Hei, was brought in to the surgery of vet Mr Liu in China's Dalian city in horrific condition in 2010.
The men left, saying they had to fetch some money from the bank, but never returned.
Mr Liu told CCTV News: ‘At the time Da Hei was in really bad shape. First I had to remove the dead skin and flesh from his limbs. Then I performed amputation on the bones. He's a survivor.’
Da Hei, who’s seven years old, took 19 days to recover from the traumatic operation, but Mr Liu was determined that he wouldn't just survive his injuries - but that he'd walk again.
With the help of donations from members of the public, he commissioned a prosthetic limb manufacturer to make artificial limbs for Da Hei.
It took eight months to refine them so that they fitted properly and Da Hei does find it painful to walk on them – but at least he’s now able to move around freely.
Mr Liu now sees Da Hei as his responsibility and has taken the dog in.

If it is so painful for him to walk still, maybe this was not the best solution to give him a life of pain. I have a cat with 3 legs due to an amputation but he is in no pain and can run and jump. He was a stray that that I helped and then took in. It seems strange to me we put to sleep so many animals simply because there is no room in the shelters and animals like this one get all the attention and help.
I'm not so sure. Not being able to run and jump -- and only able to walk painfully, is no life for a Husky. I feel relatively sure that if the same amount of money was spent on an injured person, it would be better all round.
The two of you are azzzholes. This vet decided to spare the dogs life and take care of him. Some humans take advantage of the same kind of generosity only to abuse themselves. Animals and humans are on the SAME playing field. If you dont think so, you are most obviously NOT an animal lover. Please turn your pets over to the proper authorities.
This husky should have been put down. I own huskies, and they thrive on running and jumping and playing. If this dog is always experiencing pain doing the things it should love...
The money would have been much better spent on other animals in need.
Everyone has their own opinion and can donate to whatever cause they belive in. ... He chose to save this animal out of the love for him. ... If you disagree that's your own thought. . To each his own. .. But don't turn something positive as an inhumane act.... which is not. .. The inhumane act are the men who left him there to die and let someone else take on the responsibility of what they did. ..... They should be prosecuted. ....

The dog looks happy, does that not matter ?
To some of the commenters, why do you think that walking is painful? It may be uncomfortable, but painful... so some of you can read the minds of animals, how wonderful... Im very frustated by people who say that "its better they put the dog to sleep". Really? We dont put crippled people or "cabbaged" people to sleep just because the are in pain. Euthanasia is such a taboo, yet killing animas is such a graceful act. Why be so two-faced and hypocritical?
The dog looks old, he is not a puppy anymore, he isnt keen on jumping anyway, just be happy for him. All these pseudo animal lovers....i swear.....
I have a husky x malamute as well and I think this story is touching. The vet took it upon himself to help da hei and loves him dearly. If he wasnt happy with his new limbs he would have given up. Which he obviously hasnt
I completely agree. He looks happy and hasnt given up. People are so quick to say put the dog to sleep and shouldnt be. If they want to live and are fighting why do it. Good on da hei brilliant dog
Great man, great dog, a survivel, Im glad to see a dog happy!
what a happy/sad story. and that goes for the dog as well as for the judgemental people. despite all the "expert" opinions to the contrary, i'm going on a limb here (sorry), and suggesting the doctor might know what he's doing...
I think this is a positive thing to do from the vet's point of view. BUT, you have to make this painless. why is he stopping or settling for painful walking? If they can make it right for elephants, why not this Husky? Those dogs were born to run and have an everyday adventure. That is why they are very hard to keep just as pets. They run like crazy. We live in a rural area and every once in awhile you will see an advert at the post office about a wayward husky. So while I admire the vet's skills and love for the dog, I wonder about the quality of life, which these days seems to be the big thing to wonder about.
So the dog shouldn't have been given a chance? Would you have the same attitude if it were YOUR pet?
