An activist says the government of the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has only created the illusion of collaborating with the First Nations community, Press TV reports.
Thousands of Aboriginal rights activists protested in front of Canada’s Parliament as Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and First Nations chiefs attended a summit to discuss disagreements over treaty rights and other grievances.
The meeting on Friday divided the First Nations community, with some chiefs boycotting the summit because Canadian Governor-General David Johnston, a representative of Queen Elizabeth II, did not attend. They said his presence was imperative because he was a representative of the British monarchy and the talks center on treaty rights first established by the Royal Proclamation of 1793.
The meeting between Harper, other top government officials, National Chief Shawn Atleo and 20 other native Canadian leaders ended late on Friday with plans to meet again within a month to continue the dialogue on treaties and comprehensive land claims, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development John Duncan said.
Atleo declared that Harper has finally agreed to modernize and implement the ancient treaties that were always supposed to bring peace and prosperity to First Nations.
There were early indications that what Atleo saw as a critical achievement, others saw as insufficient. A spokesman for Chief Theresa Spence, whose month-old fast has galvanized a cross-country grassroots protest movement, said late on Friday the results of the meeting fell short of what was required for her to abandon her liquid diet.
Atleo defended what was delivered in the meeting with the prime minister.
“The implications here are massive,” the grand chief of the Assembly of First Nations said.
Atleo, the elected head of the Assembly of First Nations, Canada’s main body of Aboriginal leaders, said earlier this week that some chiefs want the Harper government to review sections of two budget bills that amend environmental laws. They are also demanding that a formal process be established to examine long-standing treaties.
Atleo also had said he would demand a national inquiry into the disappearance or killings of hundreds of Aboriginal women over the past decades with little police investigation. He planned also to bring up the need for a commitment to ensure every Aboriginal community has a school.
The governor-general was scheduled to meet separately with chiefs after the summit, but some chiefs said that was not enough.
“They are meeting with him now, that was the appropriate response,” Duncan said in response to questions from reporters about why Johnston did not attend the meeting with Harper.
Among those boycotting was Spence, who launched a liquids-only hunger strike a month ago to demand the summit. Spence, the chief of Attawapiskat, a northern Ontario reserve, has become a central figure of Aboriginal rights protests that erupted almost two months ago against a budget bill that affects Canada’s Indian Act and amends environmental laws.
Protesters say Bill C-45 undermines century-old treaties by altering the approval process for leasing Aboriginal lands to outsiders and changing environmental oversight in favor of natural resource extraction.
The “Idle No More” movement, which has shown unusual staying power and garnered a worldwide following through social media, has reopened constitutional issues involving the relationship between the federal government and the million-plus strong First Nations community.
Spence, who remains on a hunger strike and is camped out on an island in the Ottawa River near Parliament Hill, told the protesters before the meeting that Aborigines should have an opportunity to hold the government accountable for years of broken promises.
“This meeting’s been overdue for so many years,” she said.
Spence agreed to attend the ceremonial meeting with Johnston moments before it began on Friday.
Other chiefs said the protests will escalate unless Harper and Johnston agree to meet with them on Friday together in one room at an Ottawa hotel on their own terms.
First Nations leader Gordon Peters of the Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians threatened to block major economic corridors, such as border crossings to the US, next week.
He said about 200,000 Aborigines in Ontario would launch a “day of action” on Wednesday if their demands are not met.
First Nations would move to “stop roads, rails, transportation of goods,” Peters said. “We just have to walk out on our land and stop it.”

Spence sparked global awareness. People all over the world protested and showed support, not just in Canada. #idlenomore
Our people are finally realizing how important it is to stay together and work as one.. we are all united... the government sees nothing but money in his eyes..
we must come together as one people one country to defend our right to clean water decent living conditions
Chief Theresa Spence has failed her First Nation and is a terrible spokesperson and symbol for the Idle No More movement. The Attawapiskat leadership has squandered a lot of money and it has been poorly spent. I feel really bad for those who are suffering because of it. Many First Nations need better and accountable leaders who are good examples to youth.
Some of us have invested in the modern treaties. Some of us have invested in King George's Royal Order of 1763. Some of us a vested in Queen Anne's Royal Order of 1703. Some of us are vested in the Great Binding Law of 1701. Some have a stake in a combination of all or parts of all.
No matter, those are the tiddlywinks and the big game is that we ARE united no matter how we see Rule of Law in effect.
This non first nation individula applauds the courage and community displayed by the first nations people. You have the right and the power! I sincerely hope you are successful in your struggles, that all Canadians will benefit. I stand beside you in spirit, and in body, given the opportunity.
Promises are simply words, remember that. Harper and those like him know how to lie, shake hands and then do what they will. What did his eyes look like as he spoke? What energy came off of his heart as he spoke? Keep up the pressure, and hold the focus of your intention. Listen behind the words. I am holding you and all of us in my prayers. With deep gratitude.
We pay Taxes Like every other white people!!!I go to the Grocery store and we pay tax on everything we by so were not Different!!!
smh.
I dont wanna work! I just want to bang on my drum all day!
i think if anyone is running for chief they should have there grade 12 and a good deegree before they run most of them have no degree at all and are chief and they dont know how to spent the money right at all the people on the reserves are the one that hurt the most when the cheif arent spending the money right for the people they have poor houseing and nothing is done for them just talk from the chief
I hope our first nations leaders spoke in their original first nation language when speaking and exchanging words with this corrupt government. I hope they brought our original treaty wampums to show how we have never changed our agreements with them. I also hope our representatives of all first nations held the eagle feather high, when they exchanged words. remember mother earth, turtle island does not belong to us, rather we belong to mother earth. nia yeh.
We have to keep together, not just for the idle no more ,, but forever becouse we don't get enough consultation from mining comp. amd logging comp.also and especialy the government, get back with the land as one and help protect MOTHER EARTH.
Queen Elizabeth the Second "Owns" the Crown Lands of Canada lock, stock, and barrel. (See 'Who Owns The World' by Kevin Cahill)She and her banker adviser Lord Evelyn Rothschild are currently exploiting the resources of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and all 0f the lesser 'Crown Colonies' to the maximum profit margin. Prime Minister Harper is a mid-level manager who essentially covers the political areas of Her Majesty's property's. Her Governor-general is her direct representative in matters of her 'Canadian Colony'. Understanding the mechanism of the 'Corporate Colonization of Canada' and other colonized States will save time and energy in making the Idle No More Movement effective.
WE are all intruders on a once foreign land. Pushing the natives aside and forcing them to live in specialized areas just for them. they should have a right to whatever they want as they were here before we were. This falls true for any country that has been invaded by foreigners.
The picture of Chief Kappo shaking PM Harper's hand is false. Chief Kappo was not at the January 11, 2013 meeting.
all i can say is them natives were here before white people fuk u upthere who said spence is a fail atleast she stood up for her rights # word
Illusion?
Those with enlightened virtue please the people, those without enlightened virtue please them selves. Those who please the people will grow, those who please themselves perish.
Nowadays many of those who are called leaders deal with the people on the basis of like and dislike. When we look for those who know what is bad about what they like, know what is good about what they dislike, we find that they are rare.
Therefore it is said, "Those who share the same grief and happiness as the people, the same good and bad, are just". Who wouldn't take refuge where there is justice.
What broken promises huh you guys destroy new property you buy and you want prime minister harper to give you satisfaction no way on gods green earth your people need to work hard like the rest of us and learn to manage your money properly . I am metis myself but I choose not to take advantage of my rights and abuse that.
Who wrote this? Aborigines are from australia you fuck tart!! Were Aboriginals, Anishinaabe's, Indians, Native Americans, etc etc..
WTF!!!! all those calling themselves anonymous put your name out there if you believe in something as for this it just a step in the right direction it shows if we come together,we can bring change what was started by 4 native women has gone global i pray it will happen here in the u.s.
I am humbled by your words. We need more people like you. Miigwech!
You must not trust the word or written paper of the government. This time it should be on Indian terms not that of an invading people. We must stay United!!!!
So sick of seeing people's comments stating that Natives don't work and everything is handed to them.. pathetic.
Omg aboriginals were not here first my father god was here first you aboriginals need to shake your heads and ask yourselves who created you and stop whinning just to get what you want.
There you go again stop complaing its all true white people don't whine like you spoiled immature aboriginals
I dont wanna work! I just wanna bang on my drum all day! Classic :)So true!!
Con Indian Affairs Minister Duncan, following the AFN/Harper meeting, stated that First Nations HAD BEEN consulted about current legislation. This is as much a lie as consultation with Parliament-or any pretence at democacy- has been under this government.
Yeah? Well my toy is better then your toy.
Some of these comments...I pity these people who don't know what BILL C-45 is all about. They have the gall to comment their racist remarks but they forget how many crackheads live in this country that are non-native, they forget all the homeless people that are non-native, they forget how many white people are on welfare paid for by Natives who pay taxes, they forget that they always cry we want equality and one canada, but they forget to include the Aboriginals as equals!!! Not all of one culture is on welfare in Canada paid only by white mans taxes. Our country called Canada is very diverse and these white people have the gall to come here and comment they are better than the rest of the non-white world!!!

I probably won't make many friends for this comment but, as far as poor treatment goes by the Natives in Canada. When a country (in this case a European country) conquers a less powerful country they used to kill, rape, and plunder; and after that was done they would enslave the people they conquered with little thought or regard for after they left. Well the Brits signed treaties for education, healthcare, tax leaviations, etc. however what was not anticipated was the rapid population growth of Natives in respect to non-natives, and how people would take advantage of the situation and expect the government to pamper them (the majority, admittedly there are a number of working and educated Natives) to the point of a lot people not having pride in their lives/existance and turning to drugs, alcohol, and other emotional numbing substances. Then after this is done, blame is placed on "the white man" for introducing them to "white man's culture". You cannot change the world, but you can adapt (look at Asia) to the world as it is, and try and best the at whatever you choose to do but...you have to be accountable for your actions and take responsiblity for yourself, the government won't (nor should)be responsible for the actions of the indivual (person or group of persons). Responiblity should be taken where the error has occured, you cannot erase history and years of supposed wrong doings but you can change the future and your attitude to how to live and succeed in the world in which we ALL live.
^^^this is untrue. harpers government made false accusations against her to cover up the fact that attawapiskat is not receiving adequate funding to provide decent living conditions. it has already been proven that cheif theresa spence had properly dispersed the money.
Sorry but you must have taken a history classed the rest of Canada missed out on. No wait! I forgot there was never any truthful history books taught in any schools in Canada!--BILL C-45 is not about blaming the white man. If you would take the time to do research on the topic rather than guess what you believe to be true maybe you will gain an understanding. The government is all white? Yes? Why is it there are no other cultures in Harper's government? Not many! Then you go on to say look at Asia...did Harper or any other Canadian government try to run China? Maybe they should because they would get blown to high heaven lol Yes that is right we cannot change your world and that being said Treaty Rights cannot change either! Or do you not know anything about that topic either! Saving the environment can be changed but it won't happen until Canada stops showing the whole world how racist it really had become. The whole world reads these comments not only Canadians and it is fotunate that they do because they can read how horrible some people can be in this day and age!
Harper is definetly hiding something from all Canadians. Do let him off the hook just yet. If he leaves our sights, even for a second, he may sell Canada to Mexico or India. I say kick Harper out of Canada before he starts a war that will spead across the whole world. Everyone says Obama is the anti-christ.... You're wrong.
John Duncan's talking points after the Friday meeting were the same the harper government fed to us before the meeting. They are not admitting to underfunding education - I believe it is several thousand less per student compared to what Provincial Governments fund their schools. Shelia Fraser's criticisms have never been addressed. The UN has condemned their living conditions. Jails have become the social housing for First Nations. The media is not doing their job!!
We need to face the facts & be told the truth.
United Nations needs to charge them with genocide: for massive movement of children from one family to another, for conspiring to dispense deadly chemicals into the lands and waters and air. For tyranny, for taking away of lands and contaminating them. For destruction of forests that produce clean oxygen, for excavation of fauna that cleans pollution from land, for exposing deadly tar that is killing humans, animals, land and air. For violation of Human Rights of all indigenous peoples, which includes the Europeans human rights who have become nomads on this continent.
Modernize and implement means we are on a downhill slide from here on. They will use words to turn it around on us,,modernize yeah rite. Next thing you know our forests or should I say, even the majority will be losing out too,,,in protecting the life we have here in Canada (The wild life, the clean water, the air we breathe is in danger),,,like the amazon forests down in south america. The Govnmt will take advantage of this situation and use it to make good on thier behalf.
Anonymous, man as a whole is a virus upon the earth and your rudeness and lack of respect for others guarantees your inclusion in the group. We are all brothers and sisters.. our DNA proves that. No people should take by force what clearly does not belong to them and the Europeans certainly did that everywhere they came in the "New World".
No one can turn back the wheels of time. I wish we could, but your words in part have convinced me turning the land back to you would not be right either. You are not the man your ancestors were or I would feel differently.
Man is destroying this planet. But, I am hoping we will merely make it unlivable for humans before we actually destroy it. Then the Earth Mother will have the opportunity to heal herself and try again to bring forth a people who will respect her and live in peace with one another.
What we can do is learn to respect one another. It would be nice if the white man would admit that what his ancestors have done was wrong, but since he continues to rape the Earth and lives without any respect for life, it is unlikely.
All we can do is live our lives in a way that is at harmony with Nature and respect and Love our Brothers and Sisters and by doing so show others how life is meant to be lived. Those who worship things and seek only to accumulate wealth are sick and cannot be changed by force, will not change until they are ready.
Those who don't understand the effect of sounds and vibrations on our reality should educate themselves on quantum physic... The chanting is a powerful vibration like radiowave that impacts our reality... Our brothers and Sisters may not know how it works at the vibrational level, but they know its power.... So , please don't ridicule them!!!!!
And, by the way: We All broadcast the Earth vibration as well!!!!
Our cellphones, our TV don't...They have been calibrated to disconnect us from ourselves!
crimeminester is trying to split the Indian nation in two
Idiot
DAVID MORITZ IS ONE OF THE ONLY PEOPLE ON HERE THAT POSTED ANYTHING WORTH READING --LOVE ONE ANOTHER ,WE ARE ACTING LIKE TWO FLEA'S FIGHTING OVER HOW OWNS THE DOG THEY ARE LIVING ON
Kia ora (be well) First Nation people of Canada. I am a native from Aotearoa NZ. Reading these comments are my first insight into your treaty issues which we too are trying to overcome here in NZ. Some of our Maori people have settled their grievances with the same Crown you are currently trying to sit at a table with. Your plight is so incredibly hard but I wanted to send some words of encouragement and support to you all because you deserve to be recognised for the promises broken which have nearly devastated your people. Unity is the key, loyalty and trust in your leaders you know can get the job done, last of all cry for your sacrifices and celebrate your achievements because you are a living breathing nation - Kia kaha (be strong)
Stop blaming white people for the things they do. Indiand attacted other tribes and killed there men and stole there women. The world has run like that since the bigining of time brother!!!!!!
( browneyesf max! )
Take note, because there are A LOT of educated and working natives out here too. We have every right to stand up for our native peoples. We need our voices to be heard. Otherwise they will continue taking what we keep fighting for, what we share amongst each other. Our hope for a better future, hope for the next generations of all cultures around the world. Whose to teach our children that world is not so bad, that no one can take our rights and given ground. We can't just lay back and watch them hurt our futures. And whose to say if there is a god or not, we're created as one and we should stand together as one. Whether we believe in god or not. We are not trying to take advantage of the benefits our people were promised. We are being betrayed. Have a heart for people in a struggle, people that are actually trying to do something with their lives because people who struggle arent always alcoholics and drug addicts or whatever it is you presume, it is NOT always natives who go through these things. So take a look around you. And think to yourself for one second, am I with them or against them.
I think All Of us WHITE PEOPLE should form a FUCK IDLE NO MORE AND THEIR RACIST COMMENTS THIS IS BULLSHIT! HARPER DOESNT REPRESENT ALL WHITE PEOPLE WE WORK HARD WE ARE TAXED ON EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ARE YOU??????????WE DONT GET MONEY WHEN WE TURN 18 TO GO BUY A BRAND NEW CAR OR TRUCK ONLY TO SMASH IT UP WITH A WEEK BECAUSE ALL WE WERE TAUGHT ON THE RESERVE WAS TO DRINK AND FORM AN INDIAN GANG GET A LIFE YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME FUCKIN ILL~!!!!!!!!!!!! PPL need to educAte themselves....I sit beside and work with them...and the person honestly thought I don't pay taxes?????get a grip @ educate yourselves ppl before u open up ur fat traps @ talk about shiat u know nothing about!!!!!
There was no illusion of collaboration between Ottawa and the Assembly of First Nations. AFN is wholly dependent on Ottawa for its existence. They are collaborators by colonial design. They may see themselves as making the best of a bad situation, but they are not challenging the system of dominion.
I have no First Nations heritage but the actions, broken treaties and persecution of tribal peoples by my own British ancestry shames me. Your dedication and commitment to fighting for your rights not only as tribal people but as human beings is honourable and I can only hope that you succeed in improving the lives of tribal peoples. It is a disgrace that Governor –General David Johnston failed to attend the meeting as a representative of Britain and maybe you should consider contacting our own Prime Minister David Cameron who is accountable to the Queen and British Citizens (however like most Governments across the world they seem to do as they want anyway). You not only have tribal rights but Human Rights too and your government should be held accountable for continuing to break treaty rights and persecute tribal nations. I sincerely hope you are successful in accomplishing your aims and objects and securing better lives for you peoples. I truly believe that I can not be the only English person to feel this way and I stand by you in spirit (and body if I could). Anneliese xx
Note to David Moritz – I believe we are all the same no matter the colour of our skin we are all HUMANS. I am white and as you can see from my above post I acknowledge that the actions of past Europeans were a disgrace but I am not personally responsible for their actions as tribal peoples are not responsible for their ancestor’s actions.
No one who is living today are who our ancestors were – we are our own selves and yes sometimes we make wrong decisions and make wrong choices – its human nature and partly how we learn. You are right that no one should take anything by force but we can not change what has already happened however we should try not to make the same mistakes over and over again. We can try and make things better for others.
We should not make our Mother Earth unliveable for future generations to suffer; we should be trying to save this planet not continue to destroy it. I would also like to point out that it is NOT only white people who are raping and pillaging the planet! Anneliese
I;m reading many comments about our First nation People and Leadership, yes we have some bad ones but we have many good leaders as well. We as First Nation People are decendents of a people that have been here for many many years, our lands were taken and there was constant war but a Treaty was signed in good faith which by the way did not really benefit our people. We as First Nations fight for our rights together, we have never stopped any other culture or race to stop fighting for what they believe in or what they want in this country but we do fight for ours. No one has a right to judge us, we are fighting to ensure that our Lands and Rivers are safe for future generations, doesn;t everyone want this for our children. We are fighting to ensure that our Country is not sold out to other Countries with this Free Trade. We want employment for all Canadian Citizens, not immigrants flown in from other Countries to take our jobs or training that should be here for our people. We want our children to be looked after by our own system, for many years even after Residential School our children are still going missing or being adopted out without proper consultation with our First nations, these children belong to us or we should ahve knowledge of where they are. There is corruption with our children that are supposed to be looked after in a system that says that they are protecting them from their caregivers, many have gone missing, many. We were shoved onto Reservations saying that we were not fit to live in a Society and treated like shit when we came into Municipalities, now they want our Reservations and they want to turn us into Municipalitites, why because we got shoved on gold and Minerals, that was the work of our Creator, we are supposed to protect this earth not destroy it. How many inside deals go on with lawyers and the system adopting our kids out, prob making tons of money on an adoption, hoping for us to give birth to a white looking child so the dollar will go up. How many Native woman have been raped and beaten with no one caring. I myself have a brother that was murdered many years ago, no one has still come to us to tell us anything, only that it was being investigated, just another dead Indian, thats the way that we look at it.
Spence is not fighting for natives rights, she is posponing her crime sentence and running away from the wrongs she did to the Attawapiskat community. She is BUYING time and trying to gain ppl's respect in pretending she is looking out for her ppl and she let them freeze and starve while she was banking in and living the good life. I have zero respect for that woman and she is a very bad leader for the Idle No More movement, she represents CRIMES and SELFISHNESS. People are confusing the movement with her crimes and that doesn't help. She shouldn't be in the picture. Showing our future to "starve yourself" to get what you want, to be heard, arm yourself??? NO that is not right, look at who sat with the PM and they didn't have to starve for it. She is a con-artist trying to look good after screwing it for all of you.
As far as the land agreements are concerned...Some Native communities brought that aspect onto themselves...by "leasing "their own land to large companies for extra profit...the Government has stepped in...only because they feel it necassary to make a profit for themselves, in what the nAtives are already doing....As for the Accountability of Funds"....welll....being a Native who lives Off Reserve....I think that ALL Chirfs SHOULD be accountable for their spending....every year..every band and Chief are alloted so much money from the federal government for their Band members...and only a fraction of that money is actually spent on the members...being Off-reserve...we get nothing!..that's a fact!...
The path forward will be difficult because the Canadian non-native people have been miss-educated about the relationships and responsibilities of Nations, treaties and the Crown. Many of the above comments display the lack of good education and accurate understanding of our histories and who we are. People were intentionally misinformed over generations.
Now as First Nations Grass Roots and Leaders attempt to untangle the lies and deception, our government looks on smugly as we fight one another, displaying resentments often based on intentional miss-education, TAKE OUR EYES OFF THE BALL!
First Nations, People of Colour and the white majority have all been manipulated for the benefit of the very few, while the Earth and all her children have suffered as a result. Our First Nations have given us all an opportunity to become properly educated on these things. Look now for yourself. Yes you see greed and ego and mistakes in us all, for we are all human. And it is human also for some people to manipulate us through our weaknesses and self-interest, that THEY may despoil the planet and the people to their own accumulative interests. But it is not right! And there is little time left for making things right again.
So in spite of our limitations and short-comings, even our miss-deeds as individuals and groups, the opportunity has been made for us to set aside our pain, suffering, feelings of anger, superiority, inferiority, arrogance, entitlement...willful distancing, and assess the situation as dispassionately as possible.
Have we all been dispossessed of our birthright, our connection to the Earth? For many, have we been given everything, but truth, while or birthright was quietly stolen away? Were many forced off their homelands, humbled and humiliated and repressed for the benefit of others? Were their grievances ever adequately addressed and redressed? Were agreements made and not kept? Who made those agreements?
Keep asking the questions-there are many good answers in the above comments, even in the rude and bigoted and ignorant ones. At some point you may have the answers that move you to Idle No More.
Oh where do I start? I will begin with first of all I am a Metis woman and I stand behind the First Nations Peoples of this land. Many times I have been mistaken for being a First Nations person because of the color of my skin. Both of my grandmothers are Metis, one grandfather is white and the other grandfather is a nonstatus Ojibway. I happen to look more Native then white. I have been accused of getting free education when I was attending university. But like other Metis and non-status folks I had to take out student loans to educate myself. I have faced racism throughout my life. Many uneducated individuals simply don't understand the ignorance and racism First Nations, Metis, and Inuit face. They just see what they hear on the news and other such like media or what they are taught in their homes. The history of when Europeans came to Canada and slowly took over the lands is so simple. Yet not many white folks really care to find out about it just as long as they can live the "American Dream" here. (If you don't know what the American Dream is, google it) Yes their ancestors came from poor living conditions in their own countries or they came here hoping to find gold and get rich. There is many other reasons as well. I don't feel like giving a history lesson today. What most Canadians don't understand is treaties were signed and have to be honored. It's as simple as this. Money that is paid out to First Nations is something like rent being paid to the people of their homelands. It is not a handout! All other races that are here come from other countries. If they themselves did not immigrate here, one of their ancestors did. First Nations People are a Sovereign People who entered into a legal contract with the British Crown. First Nations People have to be consulted with when it comes to Canada's resources like the environment, the mining industries, forestry industry, any bodies of water. And guess what? There is 175 laws in place to protect the First Nations rights to these resources. It really is sad the First Nations People of this land have to take a stand and protect what is rightfully theirs anyways. My understanding is that the First Nations leaders only would like to work with Canadian governments and resource to foster investments and jobs. What a lot of folks don't understand is racism stems from the government system in Canada. It's built right into the system. Unless you study trends and patterns in Canada, you wouldn't know that. I just wanted to say a few things here on this site to voice my opinion. So I will stop here. Also thanks to the Moiri with his insight. He's right we need to stay united and loyal. My prayers are with the First Nations of this land.
WOW!!..SOME OF THE COMMENTS ON HERE ARE UN-REAL!!...I HAD THOUGHT.. THAT AS A HUMAN RACE, WE HAD A BREAK-THROUGH FROM THE RACIAL SLURRS AND ATTITUDES OVER THE YEARS..BUT IT APPEARS THAT "IDLE NO MORE"..HAS BROUGHT BACK ALOT OF THE RESENTMENT AND RACISM.. THAT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE!..WE, AS A NATION..ARE MADE UP OF MANY CULTURES AND PEOPLE WITH MANY DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS..AND WHEN ONE CULTURE ENDURES ISSUES, THE REST SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEM ..WHETHER THEY BE NATIVES..NATIVE AMERICAN'S..DUTCH..IRISH..AND THE LIST GOES ON... THE POINT OF STANDING UP TO THE GOVERNMENT WHEN IT'S DONE/DOING WRONG SHOULD BE THE ONLY ISSUE HERE FOLKS!!..HOW ELSE ARE WE GOING TO SURVIVE AS A NATION?..ONE WON'T LISTEN TO JUST ONE VOICE...BUT MANY VOICES THEY WILL HEAR!!
J. SCHNARE

I would suspect all the hatred here is spawned by people paid by big iol to rekindle the age old hatreds and mistrusts. Never underestimate big business to send in the clowns to stir the pot!
Having said that, I am most disquieted that this movement has been taken over by the Chiefs.
This is a woman's movement, feminine energy.
It makes me cry to see the chiefs seem to now go "Ok ladies...we'll take it from here. Now go home and cook supper!"
Give the movement back to where it needs to be!
I have been to attawapiskat while working with mining companies in the area. And it is impossible that 90 million dollars were spent there ever!! Im sure all of this about what is going on at the ring of fire. They just want to get there hands in everyones pockets. They say (This is our land) well hey I own the mineral rights not you!! The natives in the area are welcome to work with us up there but most would rather stay home and do what ever it is they do. I love the comment, I dont wanna work, I just wanna bang on my drum all day. Well said!
You ever see natives run over a herd of cariboo with a snowmachine in deep snow breaking there backs, then hitting them with an axe! But thats there right to do so hey! Or how about catching all the walleye that are spawing in a protected river, Then selling the fish to people for beer money. Some are over 13 pounds!! And the MNR guy can only watch in disbelief. They dont give a shit about protecting anything! I think they should not be able to get away with this kind of stuff any longer.
Aborigines????? really???? They live in A*U*S*T*R*A*L*I*A...cant even get that straight...and the last one Anonymous....NO first nation would EVER agree to the above treatment to the animals..report them...Just because these ones are bad, doesnt mean we ALL are....same goes for any race Anonymous...
RIGHT! Just because there are people who do that doesn't mean we ALL do that. There are so many natives who understand the powers and contributions of our sacred waters, who DO NOT sell our fish for "beer money". Educate yourself and look beyond your hate to realize this is not only a native thing! < idle no more 3
^^^^^ I promise you it is not hate that I have at all for natives. Its just what happens around the Thunder Bay area where I live. One elder told me that he killed 33 moose in one year! Now how is that right! I believe that this should not be happening and I dont want to stand idle no more! This has to be stopped!
You say natives live off the land but have you ever seen a native grow a vegtable garden? Ever! And dont say its because the soil isnt good enough because there is a thing called composting.
Woman of God... Pray for our Country Canada and you will see results ...hatred and ungodly words are not rhe answer... Love one another and forgive one another and you'll live longer ... God is good!!!
All money that reserves spend is accounted for by the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development. Any misappropriation of funds is most likely also approved by the Minister's department. And to add to your comment the amount of funding for Aboriginals towards infrastructure (health, education, roads, policing, etc.) is about half of what is given to average Canadian citizens under the provincial system. There have been many abuses by the Canadian government that manipulate the odds against the Indigenous Peoples, it is time the power to do this by the Canadian government is properly restricted within government procedure to realize signed Treaties. The Canadian government must be forbidden to continue on a path of genocide and misinformation. To break a Peace Treaty is an act of war, to declare war on the Indigenous Title carriers of the land threatens Canada. Why aren't you upset at the government for committing treason? Oh or even the way they are cutting potentially 120,000 jobs, making seniors work longer because they leant the money to Israeli policing, or how they're pitting those seniors against people who use to be able to collect EI for jobs that don't exist? Or how if you get a great business idea in Canada you will now be fighting with subsidiary companies of multinational corporations for grant money, now to judged by Harper Gov'rs. Or how you might never be able to teach your grandkids to fish because every safety precaution around water has been taken away, there will be no more studies done to tell anyone that is your drinking water, fishing /recreation water, boating water, etc., so instead you can tell them about how their water catches on fire because you were busy complaining about the wrong things and sitting on your butt doing nothing. Go ahead and tell your grandkids you'd rather sit around and reiterate negative stereotypes than save their future. Or get up and re-educate yourself!!! Unless you have over a billion in your bank account and investments in China, the Harper Gov' is sitting back and spending your money like Kings on the best of everything for themselves and only themselves and exhausting the future of Canadians.
Does anyone else know there are other Bills being passed and being pushed to pass...On the outside Bill C-3 seems to be a great bill to give status to those who due to reasons within act was omitted or because of marriage lost status. However, when looking deeper into the interpretation of the Bill this enabled people to be added to a Bands who were never included for reasons other than the reasons stated within the act but for some unknown reason not described within the act. So with Bill C-3 we see individuals added to band list without any previous knowledge of this person’s existence or knowing of whom they are related to or even knowing their connection with the band they were added to.
* Harper announces they will build 22 new provincial prisons, and 15 new special handling units (SHU) with 24 hour a day lock down solitary confinement in 15 existing federal prison!
Crime rate has gone down in Canada in the last 10 years! Why so many new prisons and what are these 15 new Special Handling Units for since there doesn't seem to be mass riots in prisons and in fact by statics prison violence has went down in the last 10 years?
Harper passed Bill C-10
Bill C-10 added sections on terrorism and the support or the inciting of terrorism, also the minimum sentencing to any one committing such acts of terrorism as defined within the act.
*If crime rate is going down why is Harper passing these tough on crime bill and including minimum sentencing on most crimes including summary convictions.
Then Harper passes Bill C-309
Bill C-309 - anyone wearing a concealment or mask over their face without any lawful excuse is guilty an offence. Even if you are standing there not wearing concealment without any real purpose you are guilty and can go to Jail for up to 5 years.
*who have we seen the most wearing concealment's such a bandannas over their faces? You do not even having to be causing a disturbance you could be just standing at a protest or demonstration even peaceful demonstration wearing concealment over your face and you can be arrested and throw in jail up to 5 years.
Are you starting to see the connection?.
Now let’s look at all these new Bill’s Harper is passing! Harper knows we will protest and do demonstration and he purposely passed Bill C-309 because of previous protest some warriors wore concealment's over their faces. Now because of this new law, those one who wear concealment's can be arrested right then and there and receive up to 5 years in prison.
Can you see where this is going?
Now Harper is pushing for the Bill S-212 and the First Nations Private Property Act.(FNPPA)
Bill s-212 and FNPPA - The Government will have the power to divide all our lands equally between band members and those band members will have the power to sell their allotted piece of land to anyone who is wishing to buy the land, including mining,
drilling and fracking companies.
Are you connecting the dots?
Now Bill C-3 comes into play. With all these new band members we have never heard of or never met or even know their connection to our band but yet now they are band members! Under Bill S-212 and FNPPA, these unknown members will be allotted equal share of our land even though they have no connection but under this new Bill they will still be allotted land and have the power to sell this land!
Now when all our land starts getting sold off piece after piece and then these big Corporations start coming and destroying and polluting our lands because it was sold to them by the unknown band members and if we protest these Corporations under new clause in Bill C-10 we will be inciting terrorism and with the minimum sentencing everyone will receive prison terms hence all the new prisons and Special Handling Units!
There are other concerns with Bill C-10 that I should include;
Section 95 subsection 139 is about multiple sentencing and the merging of sentences.
Before this bill, when police would charge a person they would in most cases charge the person with multiple charges knowing that when the person plead guilty or found guilty most of the charges would be dropped an the person who be sentences on the most severe of the charges.
If they were found guilty on a couple of charges most times those sentences ran concurrent with one another and only on special occasions depending on the offence then sentences may run consecutive. Consecutive sentences usually are only two sentences.
However under this new section of Bill C-10, the person could be found guilty for all charges and receive a separate sentence for each charge and they would then merge with one another. Meaning, as soon as one sentence is fully complete you would start the next sentence and this could be multiple sentences.
Bill C-10 also made many changes with parole and mandatory releases, whereas, before the Bill, if a person did not receive parole then they would only have to do 2/3 of their sentence and be released on that date that 2/3 of the sentence was complete. Now they will have to do the entire sentence. Then with the merging sentence clause, if they received other sentences, then that next sentence would commence as soon as the first one was complete.
Many First Nations in correctional institutions are denied Parole or worse they never even get a chance to go in front of the Parole Board. So many First Nation inmates would just stay in prison until their 2/3 time has expired and then be released. But not under the new clause in Bill C-10 they will not receive their mandatory release and stay right until the Stat release which would eb the entire sentence and since a high percentage of First Nations as usually charged with multiple offences then would end up having multiple sentences merging which would ensure they are locked up for many years.
Before Bill C-10 whenever a first time offender received a sentence for non-violent offences they could be released after serving 1/6 of their entire sentence, but now under Bill C-10 they will no longer have that option. Now lets consider Bill C-309, which would be considered wearing a face cover would be a non-violent offence, the person could receive up 5 years and then be force to serve the entire 5 year sentence which would keep First Nations incarcerated as long as possible.
Bill C-30, we are told was first created to stop Child pornography and this bill is being pushed through parliament right now and when it passes it will allow the government to access anybodies computer they wish. This Bill is really there so that the Harper Government can spy on every Canadian.
We know that last summer Harper pushed to have Bill C-11 copyright act to be passed. This Act makes it illegal to copy and download any music or video to your computer, cell phones, IPod, IPad etc. With Bill C-30 they will be able to see that you had download music and movies to you computer, IPod, IPad or phones and could be charged and sentenced to up the 5 years in prison. Under Merging Sentencing they could possible sentence you for music and then movies under separate charges.
The Harper Government is controlled by The Four Horsemen of Banking (Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup and Wells Fargo) who own the Four Horsemen of Oil (Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch/Shell, BP and Chevron Texaco); in tandem with Deutsche Bank, BNP, Barclays and other European old money behemoths. All they care about is the mighty dollar.
This is attack on all Canadians liberties and freedoms, black and white and everything in between.
Listen to your tribal voice, IDLE NO MORE! FN people need respect and we have never been respected. We want respect. We want to be heard. We want what is respectfully ours. We want to negotiate in PEACE. Non-natives were taught to be racist and I think this needs to CHANGE. Today children should be educated in school about the treaties, land claims, First Nations people. Why not? Us native people will be here for ever and it makes sense for our generations to have knowledge on it. It's always been a hush, hush, twist fn ppl up the ass. Well, CANADIAN GOVERNMENT n canadian people it is time to take responsibility for you n your governments actions and make thingz right. Lets work together. I believe in going forward with a positive attitude, instead of a pin pointing the obvious that does not work especially when it effects us globally, the environment, economically. Democracy, Human Rights ring a bell? First Nations are no different. THanks for listening.
There is Only one race.....the human race. It is a shame that there is only resentment and bitterness in most of these voices. True....there is reason for it.....but things could be worse. These meetings are only the first steps of many towards a new age of prosperity and harmony among all peoples. A heavy heart and mind can know no peace or harmony in ones spirit and soul.
this is for: browneyes f max
You're ignornt! You speak with a bad heart and mind! But it is because you have mixed blood...a true person does not judge! Aboriginal people have opinions, not judge...you dont know all the facts...do some research...media is not the answer...there are 2 sides to every story....you made a choice to judge what you hear not what you know! Your metis attitude is hidious! I am ashamed to say you are catergorized as status! This is why 100 blood are reluctant to metis population. You are not standing with your people...take a look at your self, what you wrote, sick mind is what you put of there of your self...it's in what you wrote and you can not take that back now...the blood you have is of the white man...i only feel sorry for you.
My parents created me and their parents created them, same as with your family. Religion has no place in a legal problem. Its a legal contract with set guidelines on how to change it that aren't being followed. Im sure you would fight to have a contract be honoured if it effected you.
But its okay for you to all stand there and judge the white people? We are not Harper We do not make harpers decisions i agree with what i have read here......Quote: I dont wanna work! I just wanna bang on my drum all day! Classic :)So true!!

AND YOU PEOPLE, JUST SHOW HATE TOWARDS US AND ACT AS THOUGH WE ARE THE ONLY NATIONALITY THAT DOES STUPID, IDIOTIC, IMMATURE BEHAVIOR. YOU DUMB FUCKS ARE DESTROYING IT TOO. AT LEAST WE HAVE THE BALLS TO FIGHT FOR A BETTER WORLD WHILE YOUR MORE THAN WILLING TO DESTROY ALL THE CREATOR HAS GIVEN TO US.
AND TALK ABOUT NATIVE PEOPLE DOING HARM TO A WHITE SOCIETY, THAT'S BULLSHIT YOU FED OUR PEOPLE BOOZE TO BEGIN WITH AND THERE'S NO DOUBT DRUGS ARE ONLY POPULAR BECAUSE YOU PEOPLE ARE DUMB ENOUGH TO DO THEM AND TELL ALL YOUR OTHER DUMB WHITE FRIENDS TO DO EM TOO. SO DONT GO ASSUMING ALL NATIVES DO AND SELL DRUGS. BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE HARD-WORKING EDUCATED PEOPLE OUT THERE THAN YOUR SMALL BRAIN CAN ACKNOWLEDGE. SO, THERE'S SOME EDUCATION FOR YOUR STUPID ASS.
Fuck you.....we still can scalp people like you!!!...lol
National Farmers Union in Solidarity with Idle No More
Saskatoon: “The NFU is proud to declare its solidarity with Idle No More, which is bringing people together from across Canada to stop the Harper government from riding roughshod over our collective rights,” says Glenn Tait, NFU National Board member. “We want a better Canada.”
The NFU is calling for the federal government to fulfill its Constitutional duty to consult and accommodate Aboriginal and Treaty rights and urges the Crown to respect and fulfill the obligations of its Treaties with First Nations. We are all Treaty people.
The NFU gratefully acknowledges the leadership that First Nations people - the first farmers, fisher people, and hunters of this land - have provided in catalyzing a public call to action for environmental and social justice. The NFU, in solidarity with Idle No More and its allies, looks forward to building a society in which our forests, waters, land, and people live and produce in harmony.
In response, Sheelah McLean, one of the founding organizers of the Idle No More movement, says “We are so grateful for the support of groups such as the NFU. This alliance is essential for educating people about how critical it is to have healthy land, food and water.”
“Idle No More is not solely about First Nations’ concerns,” says Tait. “We share common commitments to protecting our precious natural resources - water, earth, air, and people - today and for future generations. Like First Nations, farmers put land at the center of our lives, but none of us will be able to work, grow, and produce if our government abandons its role as protector of our land and water. Nor will Canadians have sovereignty if investment corporations own our farmland.”
“Bill C-45 and the omnibus approach to legislation is fundamentally undemocratic and an insult to all Canadians. It is no example of how to accomplish these goals,” says Tait. “There has been no broad-based consultation about what is being changed, or whether changes are needed or wanted. Diverse voices and opinions are systematically excluded, committee reviews minimized, and debate quashed. The Harper government talks only to those who agree with its vision for Canada.”
Tait believes that Bill C-45, Bill C-38 and other bills are threatening farmers’ rights to own the seeds they plant, grow and re-use. Legislative changes are making it harder for farmers to receive the full value of their grain. As evidence, he points to the Harper government’s destruction of the Canadian Wheat Board single desk and changes to the authority, structure and budget of the Canadian Grain Commission that have crippled its power to ensure fair grading and measuring.
Tait cites Harper’s secretive negotiations of trade deals like CETA and TPP as further evidence of the government’s exclusion of not only First Nations, but all Canadians from democratic processes. “The Harper government is handing Canadian sovereignty over to corporations that are not rooted in or committed to anything but capital. It if has its way, these entities will have free reign to pry our lakes and rivers, minerals, forests, soils and seeds out from under us whether we are farmers or First Nations. We will stand together to stop this from happening.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Dec 4, 2012 Canada had 2.5 million protected rivers and lakes. on Dec. 5, Canada has 82 protected rivers and lakes.
you want your 100yr old treatys? then get the fuck back to the rez an stay there! whitey won that war! shoulda done what the USA did!

Oil Sands Development - What the Industry Doesn’t Want Us to Know
The below is in conjunction with Bill C-38
http://www.robynallan.com/2013/01/15/oil-sands-development-what-the-industry-doesnt-want-us-to-know/
Thats bullshit because I still cannot catch walleye out of the Black sturgeon river in Dorion, Ontario and you can!! Its a protected river as a walleye spawning ground and all the natives go there and catch all the spawning fish is the spring. Fuck your rights!! Because that aint right!!!
Who are you to tell ANYONE where to go??? Why don't you go lock.yourself in your outhouse for a few months and release a few pounds of sh$t every day, because your slap full to the gills.....you piece of trash!!!!!!
I saw so many people become chief and council members who only took advantage of the money they earned and who showed they cared more about themselves more so then the people and community they promised to watch as well its not only the government who is neglecting there duties and there roles towards the aboriginal communities its the people who are suppose to be in charge of caring for those who have barely anything to stand on living on reserves with no real way to prosper other then leaving the community they grew up in for jobs away from there families how is the aboriginal leaders going to make a change I believe this should be in discussion as well .
and i believe to those who are Caucasian in this discussion should be quiet on the subject of who truly belongs here and who won what you didn't win anything look at Canada your Caucasian lineage is the minority here in this day and age as well as the minority of earth its Caucasian people who should be thankful no one has been taking advantage of this thus far and taking revenge in a genocide towards your race for your color and to base you on the things your ancestors have done im sure there is 3/4 of the world that has been affected negatively by the Caucasian people so be thankful not many people believe in war and revenge but peace and forgiveness
Can't live up to their treaties and now wanting to go back on them means the land is not purchased or paid for so time for eviction and send all those worthless napiquan back to Europe!!!
Probably cause your so racist, you''ve never been to a natives house to see a vegetable garden.
