4 Dogs Rescued From Hurricane Isaac Flooding
The WWL-TV reporter notes that this time around, rescuers made a concerted effort to save pets from the storm — a drastic difference from the aftermath of Katrina.
According to Time magazine, the Louisiana SPCA estimates that 70,000 pets remained in New Orleans during Katrina, and only 15,000 were saved. Even the rescued animals faced an uncertain fate then, as just 20 percent of those pets were reunited with their owners. State and federal lawmakers have since revised evacuation policies to include disaster plans for pets.
