It is now possible to enjoy seeing "live" giant pandas in their birthplace in southwestern China, with one site showing a flow on the Internet ("streaming") of video images taken on site by webcams, the project announced Wednesday.
The flow can be found at "http://explore.org/" and was born of an agreement between the NGO and Explore the Bifengxia Panda Reserve in Sichuan Province, the main sanctuary for the region's giant pandas.
For the first time, China diffuses flow images on the Internet of some of it's pandas, animals that are considered their "national treasures" of the country, said Jason Damat, one of the leaders of Explore, an NGO non-profit organization that specializes in multimedia.
Two high definition cameras are filming live in their enclosure a selected few pandas, among whom are young, while the website also offers video clips of the best compilations of Ursidae. Users can post comments.
The project's proponents hope to assist in the advocacy for endangered species, a case that the pandas are a symbol of.
