"To the ear of the beholder, the sound of a wolf can be very musical in its own way,"

James Meger was involved in art as a teacher of it from 1973 - 1979. It wasn't until he resigned in 1979 that he really dedicated himself to the painting of his own creations. 1979 was the turning point for him because not only was his first limited edition print "Wildside" released and quickly sold out but that was also the year that it was announced that he had won the 1980 Minnesota Duck Stamp print.

James Meger gives credit to his previous education which included three years of pre-med that orientated him to understand the muscular and skeletal structure that was needed to create his realistic wildlife paintings. His goal with each painting is to tell a story and he takes whatever time is needed in order to do that. Some of his paintings have taken up to 5 months to paint. An example of his paintings telling their own story can be seen in his painting titled, "Moonlight Sonata". James Meger describes it this way, "To the ear of the beholder, the sound of a wolf can be very musical in its own way. To support the wolf's song in 'Moonlight Sonata' I consciously created a symphony in the background: the symmetry of the trees and the flow of the open water."

Beginning in 1982 he has added his own special touch by including hidden images in his artwork. Because of this he became known as the artist who paints " more than meets the eye."
Enjoy his wonderful paintings below.

Alpha II by James Meger ~ "I call this print 'Alpha to the Second Power' because it's predecessor, 'Alpha' was in a similar setting. In many of my works, there's more than meets the eye. A quiet study of 'Alpha2' will reward the viewer with additional wildlife subjects." - James A. Meger.
