Open Roads Films and Liddell Entertainment are releasing a new movie this Friday, Jan. 27th. The name of it is "The Grey" and it is a story of how some men become stranded in Alaska and have to fight the elements and a pack of wolves. Sounds like a good thriller movie. The problem is that the plot in the name of sensationalism has distorted the wolves into bloodthirsty killers that track the men down and kill them.
This is very irresponsible film making as the wolves in the U.S. are currently under fire in two western states with a wolf hunt that has slaughtered more than 300 of them since Sept. This film depicts the same hysterical non-truths that is running rampant out west. Far from being bloodthirsty killers, wolves are very shy animals that try to avoid humans at all costs because of the dangers that humans pose to them. In fact even if you live in wolf country it is highly unlikely that you will ever see a wolf.
One would've hoped that the film makers would have done the proper research ahead of time to know this. But if they even bothered to do that then they have chosen to ignore it. A recent event took place before the filming began that tends to support that point of view. The director, chose to feed actual wolf meat to the cast in order to help them get into character. Several of the actors became sick from it, but the leading character, Liam Neeson actually went back for seconds and joked about it.
The wolf is a very beautiful and ecologically important animal in our world. To further endorse falsities about them in order to make lot's of money out of total greed is completely reprehensible. A very strong message must be sent to these Hollywood people and the cast that we will not accept this kind of movie making. Please take a stand against it by boycotting the movie in the upcoming weeks.
There are two petitions below that you can also sign to let your voice be heard against this kind of film making. The wolves are struggling to survive in the U.S., please speak up on their behalf.

WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO THIS....SHAME ON YOU ALLLLLLLLLLLLL
Mis informtion leads to the slaughter of many animals needlessly.
Unbelievable... for years I have been telling my little preschool children, "There is no such thing as the Big Bad Wolf" ... Wolves simply would NOT do that!...What makes me sad is a lot of people will belive this rediculous film!!!
I am disappointed in the continuation of this death insuring death threat to the noble wolves.
I have had this same argument with so many people. It is a shame that people listen to the wrong information. I would love it if you could put the statistics of wolf attacks on people and on domesticated animals on your blog and I would gladly share it and get the word out!
I understand that trying to make money is your life. So why not go stand on a corner instead of picking on a noble animal
I just can't believe in this day and age that this kind of movie could be made based on misinformation and myths of such a wonderful, family oriented, spiritual animal.
I think Native Nations should take them to court and wipe their payroll clean for obstruction of human and religious rights. those that consume have no idea what harm they are doing , at the same time are refusing to honor the eauty of the mother earth -is a form of anti life.
The Film makers should be hunted down and then lets see how they feel
Liam Liam Liam.. what have you done? Did you sell your soul out? ?Was it worth it?So sad and disappointed at both you and film-makers... shame o you all !!
Wolf love forever !!!They´re nothing as portraited in this movie...It´s all lies and misinformation and it all will contribute of making people even more afraid of wolves ......its all to sad.
fuck for film,
Thank goodness for the Internet. The first thing I did when I saw the ad for this movie is hit the net. Hollywood, this is not the old days when you could get away with anything for the sake of your movie. Wolf meat? You gotta be kidding. Liam is off my "like list."
Y'know, I'm all for manly Jack London style Alaskan action, but right now these animals don't need any more undeserved bad press. The last thing Americans need is more motivation to harm and destroy our natural heritage, and the last thing wolves need is a movie that encourages manly hunter types to grab for permits to blow holes in 'em when states open that possibility.
I have rescued a wolf and she is now nine. The most intelligent, beautiful,
gentle animal I have ever cared about. Wolves are spiritual and not to be looked at like monsters. We are trying to save the wolves that are being slaughtered out west. How dare you portray them like this. Boycott!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is so wrong to involve animals in a harmful way in films, and they should never be depicted in a bad light when so many moronic humans are then willing to use that as an excuse for further cruelty.
Absolutely deplorable! Anyone who had a part in the making of this film is not a human being by any means, they are MURDERERS. Disgusting.
Disgusting!I wish people would just take the time to learn about an animal before they show them in this way. Wolves are intelligent special animals. So sad!
First the Native American, now the wolf. Do film makers take delight in feeding the public a load of bullshit. Hopefully only the ignorant will believe this film. The wolf is an endangered animal and this will only serve to persecute it further....digusting!!
I am so disappointed in this movie and the lies it lays out against wolves. They are a loyal, social, spiritual, magical and timid animal. When you realize that you have helped in bringing on the extinction of this animal, I can't imagine how you will ever be able to sleep well again.
Hello all! If you are boycotting this movie you better be boycotting the meat, dairy and egg industries too by going vegan! Veganism is easy and important, much more important then telling people not to do to the movies! Go vegan!!!
FORGET disappointment; try HATE! Ok, a bit harsh, but geez. Who would even WANT to see a movie like this? And yes, veganism is GREAT, and so is vegetarianism. but not unless you are properly taught and follow guidelines. ; )
All you tree huggers need to get a life!!!
Iris says: This film does not show the important truth about wolves, but harms the wolves in a time of increasing awareness of the truth is!
Wolves are NOT the man-killer, but people are wolf-killer, and must be stopped!
It had better be a movie shot shows the true nature of wolves, rather than to stir up more hatred against them - that is DISGUSTING!
It's just a movie morons. It's apparent that the animals in the film are an allegory for death, and come across like monsters, kind of like the movie The Edge. Films don't have the same cultural impact that they used to, nobody is going to go shoot a wolf who would not otherwise. A Serbian Film has a man fucking an infant to death - no one cares. Get a clue and a life to boot.
I believe this Movie is made or was made for political reasons. It is a propaganda film. Hunters bring in money for Certain States (Alaska, etc...) and if the Wolves lives depend on hunting other wildlife for food..the Wildlife that The Hunters could be killing, (and showcasing) henceforth, bringing in money for that state; a Movie like this Could & does justify the killing of Wolves all over, including the Very Much endangered Mexican Grey Wolf. Problem is Wolves are Gentle Giants and Harmless to humans.
Please do not miss the message of the movie, which has very little to do with wolves. When Liam Neeson's character nearly commits suicide in the beginning, it is the howling of a wolf that interrupts him and stays his hand. That howl is a call to confront his demons, manifested in the form of wolves. He tries throughout the entire film to escape the inevitable, until the end when he is forced to deal with his problem head on. It is an absolutely mesmerizing film that brings to the forefront our primal nature as a species. I can appreciate the concern of the depiction of wolves, but the artistic merit of the film far outweighs any derogatory representation of wolves. Don't dismiss the film with a closed mind, it's an excellent movie rich in symbolism. If you think the title The Grey represents either the climate or the wolves, then watch the film a little closer and you'll discover it stands for something quite different.
How crazy! Wouldn`t it be better, before creating a film staying studying a bit about what they are doing ? I truly hope this film will be a FLOP.
Very sad about the truth that does not exist in there.
